RULES AND POLICIES

The following list is not comprehensive of all the policies that we will be operating under.  If you've worked or volunteered for any Salvation Army programs you know that there are many guidelines that we must work within for our safety as well as the safety of others.  However, the list below covers most of the general policies for our communal living at camp.  If you have any questions please email me at: campgifford@aol.com

1. Each participant will be asked to consider other participants needs before their own. We are to follow the example of Jesus Christ who "made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, and...humbled Himself and became obedient to death, even death on a cross!". (Phil 2:8)

2. Each staff participant shall wear clothing that is appropriate for the diversity which will exist at camp. The Bible tells us to "be clothed with Humility", and to "dress Modestly". Most of this is common sense, but, please do not be offended If any of the Program Staff give your common sense a nudge. Some specifics rules which will apply all summer are: No Bikinis - One-piece suits only (some one-piece suits are not modest, please use discretion)! No Speedo's! - cover up guys.  Clothing with pictures or mottos should never contain pictures (or references to) alcohol, cigarettes, secular bands and etc.

3. All through the Bible we are told to "make music to the Lord" and "sing to the Lord" and "make music in your heart to the Lord. We are also told "not to conform to this world". For these reasons, and to better facilitate an ideal Christian environment for the camp (an environment as different from the world as possible), only Christian Music will be allowed on the campground.

4. There are three kinds of love talked about in the Bible. We only want to embrace two of those types at camp - not all three. We want to demonstrate Gods unconditional love for people, and we want to demonstrate the love that should exist between friends and family. We do not want to demonstrate the love that exist between a man and a woman. Our P.D.A. (Public Display of Affection) policy is easy. There should not be any!

5. In order to avoid even the appearance of evil, we will have a strict policy forbidding males to enter female dwelling places and females from entering male dwelling places. In reality it is really neither safe, nor desirable for you to be off in any lonely place with friends of the opposite sex. It is not safe because if there were some type of emergency you would be difficult to locate. It is not desirable because when you are physically and emotionally tired (which you will be), it is too easy to make decisions that are best made under more ideal circumstances.

6. We will have policies regarding visits from friends and relatives - these will be discussed in detail during the program orientation.

7.   None of the following will be allowed at Camp Gifford:   Guns, weapons, drugs (unless prescribed by a doctor), alcoholic beverages of any kind, fireworks or flammable substances or devices; pornography; crude, rude or offensive materials; anti-Christian behavior, clothing, music, posters, and etc.  We'll talk about all of the things we don't think belong at camp during our program orientation, but the list above gives you an idea of the types of things that are discouraged.  If you have any questions about something please ask

8. There will be a curfew at camp which will change throughout the year depending on other circumstances.  Generally we will just ask that you do not disturb our neighbors or your roommates when you are up late.

9. Gameboys, PS2's or similar game systems will not be allowed within the program initially.  Nor will DVD's (videos) or other electronic entertainment systems.  There will be a period of time where participants will be asked to fast from their normal outside stimulus (electronics) to allow God to assist them in making new study habits and in developing regular quality time with God.  After a period of time these things will be allowed to be used with nominal limitations for the benefit of everyone living at camp.  If you have questions about these policies please ask via email, phone or during your interview as you will be expected to abide by all these policies contentedly once you arrive here.

Policies regarding vehicles, use of camp recreational facilities, use of camp cooking facilities, policies regarding programs you will be assisting in and etc. will be discussed in detail during your interview and the program orientation.  Generally speaking all of our rules and policies are meant to make our environment as ideally Christian in nature as possible.

The most important rules are to be creative, have fun, walk with God and allow Him to change your life!
